Today we sent 60 runners to Domeney Reserve for the District Cross Country. There were 9 school competing against each other and with each school able to send along 10 runners per age group there were up to 90 runners in each group. With only the top 10 spots progressing to Division it was a tough competition!
Holy Spirit had a great result finishing in our highest place in a long time!
Some of our achievements today were:
– 8 runners finishing in the top 10 and progressing to Division.
– 22 students finishing in the top 30 of their group
– an overall placing for Holy Spirit in 3rd place from 9 schools with 602 points.

A special thank you to Vicki Knight for all her efforts training the team. Vicky has been training the Holy Spirit cross country team for the last 6 years and we highly value her knowledge and efforts.

Ringwood Hawks Basketball Clinics
Last week we were lucky enough to have 4 players from the Ringwood Hawks run clinics in our Grade 3-6 Phys Ed classes. Nate, Melissa, Logan and Anika have moved from America to play for the Hawks and have been visiting local primary schools sharing their skills and knowledge!
Students had a great time challenging themselves with a variety of ball handling skills, challenges, relays and games. A huge thank you to all the players for running the clinic, Ken for the organisation and nets for our basketball rings, and The Bendigo Bank Ringwood for the generous donation of basketballs.
Interschool Sport Week 6: vs Croydon Hills
This week in Inter School Sports we vs Croydon Hills, Here are the scores from this week. Basketball boys had a close game winning by 5 points with a score of 25 – 20 great job, Basketball girls gave it their best but unfortunately they lost with a score of 10 – 22. Volley stars have had another great win the final score was 2 sets to 1, let go volley stars. Now on to cricket, cricket had an awesome game win by by 27 runs with a score of 77-53 , keep it up. Tee ball boys gave it their very best but sadly lost with a end score of 3-15 as well tee ball girls had a loose will a score of 4-10. Tennis played a awesome game but unfortunately they lost with the score of 161 – 338. Rounders mixed played a close game, unfortunately losing with the score of 14-16, that was a great effort seeing Croydon hills have strong rounders teams. Rounders girls tried their best but unfortunately lost with the end scores of 14 – 20.

Regional Swimming
Congratulations to Holy Spirits 4 super swimmers Lexie Q, Caitlyn S, Louise P and Tegan B who competed at the Eastern Region swimming finals last Monday. The girls competed in the 4x50m freestyle relay heats in the morning, placing 2nd in their heat and landing the 5th fastest time overall, qualifying them for the final to be held in the afternoon. The girls swam in a final featuring the 10 fastest teams in the eastern metropolitan region, placing 6th.

Action Sport – Breakdancing!
Last Friday the students in Action Sport had a blast learning a whole range of breakdancing moves with Carlo from Vibe Studio. They worked hard on a hot morning and performed an awesome routine at the end! Check out the gallery of photos below….

Division Swimming Competition
This morning we had 4 Grade 5/6 girls representing Holy Spirit at the Maroonday/Manningham Division Swimming comp at Aquanation.
Louise, Tegan, Caitlyn and Lexie competed in the 11 yr girls 4x50m Freestyle. The girls swum a stunning race and finished in 2nd place! Earning themselves a spot at the Regional championship next Monday.
Louise also competed in individual backstroke swimming a speedy race and finishing beautifully in 3rd place! Lousie just narrowly missing out on regional qualification.

District Swimming Competition
On Monday 22nd February Holy Spirit had 19 students represent the school at Ringwood North District Swimming Competition. The event was held at Tintern pool where we came up against the best swimmers from schools in our district. Every student performed their best with 17 of our student walking away with top 4 finishes in at least one of their events! A fantastic effort.
Congratulations to Louise P who has progressed through to Division in Backstroke, as well as our 11yr Girls Freestyle Relay team (Caitlyn S, Louise P, Tegan B and Lexie Q) who also progress to Division. The girls will compete next Monday at Aquanation. Good luck girls!

Interschool Sport Week 3: vs Warranwood Primary School
This week in Holy Spirit’s interschool sports we versed Warranwood and as always, we gave it our best and showed great sportsmanship.
Boys Basketball had a great game against Warranwood but unfortunately we lost by 13.

Girls Basketball tried their best to keep up with Warranwood but couldn’t stand their ground and lost by 20.

Cricket had a hard run and delivered astonishingly, chasing down 96 of 12 overs with some massive sixes going everywhere! A great win for Cricket!!

Tee ball had a great game but unfortunately they lost 7 to 23 in a hard game.

Tee ball girls put up a great fight but unfortunately lost by nine points 15 to 24.
